Kate Middleton's Rare Social Media Statement Regarding The Death Of A British Woman

The British royal families are not allowed to have social media accounts on their own.

Instead, they have presence, but with the accounts' holders are managed by chosen individuals others than themselves. What this means, the royals don’t often have free reign to tweet whatever comes to their mind.

But in one rare case, Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, the wife of Prince Williams, made a statement on the Twitter account 'The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge', to speak a bit of her mind.

She took her chance to express her condolences to the death of a British woman.

The woman that goes with the name Sabina Yasmin Nessa, a 28-year-old school teacher, was killed on September 17th, 2021, when she took a short walk from her home in London to The Depot bar in Kidbrooke Village, where she was planning to meet a friend, according to the authorities.

In what should only take her 5 minutes on foot, Nessa never made it to her destination.

“I am saddened by the loss of another innocent young woman on our streets. My thoughts are with Sabina’s family and friends, and all those who have been affected by this tragic event,” the Duchess said in the tweet.

She ended the note with a “C,” for her first name, Catherine.

When the investigation was initiated, it was said that Sabina Nessa who worked as a teacher at Rushey Green Primary School in Lewisham, South East London, left her home in Astell Road, Kidbrooke.

The investigation started when a dogwalker found her body under a pile of leaves.

About a week later, a 36-year-old Albanian-born man named Koci Selamaj was arrested in Eastbourne, East Sussex, on suspicion of the murder.

On September the 27th, he was formally charged with the murder.

In the hearing, it is said that the man repeatedly hit Nessa with a blunt weapon. The court was told that the man then carried her away unconscious. Her body was then found covered in leaves in Cator Park, Kidbrooke, the next day.

Nessa's death attracted widespread media coverage. And that brought a huge pressure for action by the British government to tackle violence against women in London, especially against women of colors.

Nessa's death raised concerns because criminal cases against women of colors are not taken seriously by the government.

For these reasons, Nessa's death prompted an outpouring of grief and anger.

Vigils were held in several cities held to honor her life. Candle were lit, people were mourning.

People gathered in many public places, including worshipping places throughout London, where faith leaders, women's groups and local politicians take the stage.

Following Kate Middleton's rare statement on Twitter, followers of the official royal's account thanked her for expressing her condolences.

Middleton’s statement came months after the royal appeared at a memorial for Sarah Everard, the 33-year-old London marketing executive who was raped and murdered while walking home at night.

Her body was found in Kent, about a week after she disappeared, prompting protests in London for increased protection of women.

At the time, reports said that Middleton appearance at Everard’s vigil.
