Twitter is a place where people can share about anything, under 140 characters per post. Among the many users it has, U.S. President Donald Trump is one of them, and he has been seen as putting some controversies in his tweets.
A GoFundMe campaign was started and organized by Valerie Plame, a former operations officer of the CIA, and the wife of former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson. With the campaign, she hopes to buy the platform with a singular goal in mind: shutting up Donald Trump.
The "Let's #BuyTwitter and #BanTrump" campaign has a $1 billion target.
Twitter is sitting at a valuation of around $12 billion. Plame's $1 billion target won't be enough to ever buy Twitter. But the hopes are this campaign can be used to buy a controlling share of Twitter, and appeal would-be philanthropists to purchase a controlling interest in the platform, a move that would give the conglomerate significant power
"If we can't get a majority interest, we'll explore options for buying a significant stake in the company and champion this proposal at the annual shareholder meeting. If that's impossible for any reason or if there is a surplus from this campaign, 100% of the balance of proceeds will be donated to Global Zero, a nonprofit organization leading the resistance to nuclear war. "
If the campaign is to succeed, it should first oust Twitter's CEO Jack Dorsey.
