Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty In 4K Using AI

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is an espionage video game from Hideo Kojima and Konami.

The game is a direct sequel to 1998’s Metal Gear Solid, and the fourth game in the Metal Gear series.

It debuted during E3 2000 for the Play Station 2. While more than two decades have past, the game remains among the most iconic debut trailers in videogame history. Some media and fans claim that the trailer is among the best game trailers ever created.

Back in its days, the trailer was shown off running in real-time on PlayStation 2.

This time, Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry has "remastered" the iconic a limited edition of the game's original HD DVD trailer, which was only released in Japan, and upscaled it using Topaz Gigapixel AI.

That, in order to give it a 4K resolution.

While it may not seem very impressive by 2021's standards, but the Metal Gear Solid 2 E3 2000 trailer was a feat on a different level when it was first introduced.

The game pushed the limitations of PS2, as the game offers stunning visuals for the time, as well as sheer amount of details and interactivity,

Using AI, Digital Foundry managed to upscale the game, without having to painstakingly go in and remake every texture in the game.

The AI looked at every single frame of the trailer, to identify each and every object.

It then filled the pixel gap to redo everything to ramp the trailer to 4K.
