MrBeast Topples T-Series As Most-Subscribed YouTube Channel: 'Finally Avenged PewDiePie'

02/06/2024

With his baseball cap and his rather unkempt facial hair, Jimmy Donaldson may seem like an ordinary man in real life.

But on the internet, he is one of the most famous content creators out there, and is already one of the highest-paid creators on YouTube.

The man is no other than MrBeast, the YouTube star phenomenon who is famous for giving away money to strangers.

His ambitious challenges and extravagant prizes have helped him grow his channel to a level way beyond his peers.

MrBeast, T-Series

And this time, In less than a year after breaking the record for being the first-ever individual content creator on YouTube, to have a whopping 200 million subscribers, MrBeast broke yet another record.

And that record is being the most-subscribed YouTube channel, ever.

MrBeast achieved this by overtaking T-Series.

T-Series is operated by Super Cassettes Industries Private Limited, owned by Bhushan Kumar, who became the head of T-Series in 1997 following the death of his father, the legendary Gulshan Kumar..

Earlier in 2023, the YouTuber replied to a post on X (formerly Twitter), and said that he would one day surpass the India-based YouTube channel.

T-Series has been the top channel on YouTube for many years.

In 2021, it was the first to reach the 200-million subscriber mark, two years before MrBeast reached that same milestone.

By April 2024, the 26-year-old American YouTuber had surpassed 250 million subscribers, making his main channel one of the fastest-growing on YouTube.

"After 6 years we have finally avenged Pewdiepie," MrBeast wrote on X as he announced his milestone achievement.

Among the many comments and memes MrBeast received, one of which is Elon Musk himself.

The owner himself congratulated him for achieving the milestone no entity before him had ever achieved.

"Wow, congrats!" wrote Musk.

T-Series has been on top in terms of subscriber number for quite a long time.

But its early growth happened around the year 2016, when it created an extensive catalog of Bollywood music videos, movie trailers, and other entertainment content. The channel's growth was fueled by the rapid increase in internet usage in India, particularly with the widespread adoption of affordable mobile internet.

Then, in 2018, the internet saw the competition between T-Series and PewDiePie for the number one spot, and both channels were seeing rapid gains, as fans of both channels rallied to support their preferred creators.

During this period, both channels saw a huge surge in subscribers, as they each garnered millions of new followers.

While there were periods where T-Series regained its position, and PewDiePie again surpassed T-Series, the India-based channel eventually maintained its position as the most-subscribed channel on YouTube, whereas PewDiePie remained stagnant.

MrBeast made a promise to surpass T-Series, and after six long years, he finally fulfilled that promise.

A few weeks before this, when the heat between T-Series and MrBeast was intense, MrBeast challenged Bhushan Kumar to a boxing match.

"I challenge the CEO of T-Series to a boxing match," he said, alongside a picture showing their YouTube subscribers.
