'No Nut November,' The Internet Challenge That Challenges People To Not Ejaculate For A Month

03/11/2011

Ejaculation is colloquially known as to "nut."

And during the month of November, 'No Nut November' exists to challenge people to not nut for a whole month.

In more detail, NNN is an internet challenge revolving around male abstinence from masturbation, sexual intercourse, or any for of sexual activity.

The challenge originated in 2011, and exploded in popularity on social media starting 2017.

According to the Urban Dictionary, those who wish to participate in the NNN, shouldn't engage in sexual intercourse whatsoever. Masturbation is prohibited, and ejaculation is not at all allowed.

Many claimed that No Nut November began as an online dictionary entry in November 2011.

Since the challenge became popular, it was then made clear, that the only thing that is prohibited, is ejaculation, not the form of sexual activity.

So here, participants are allowed to watch pornographic films, and erections are permitted.

"Edging," which is an act of masturbating without the intention of orgasm, is also allowed, meaning that pre-ejaculation emission is allowed.

But not many participants dare to practice this due to the "difficulty" and the "pain" they can experience.

The only ejaculation that is allowed, is during wet dream, because it's completely unintentional. But if the wet dream happens more than one time in November, the participant should be considered failing the challenge.

In the end, those who succeeded in the one-month abstinence, are winners.

In return for their effort and accomplishment, they're indeed allowed to participate in the Destroy Dick December.

DDD as what people call it, it's a related internet challenge that is essentially a counterpoint to NNN. During DDD, participants can take part in sexual activities.

After abstaining during the previous month, participants are encouraged to have intercourse, masturbation, and other sexual activities, in any way their heart desires.

The challenge however, starts from day one in December with one "nut."

Here, participants have to ejaculate a number of times equal to the day's month, meaning that in day 31 of December, participants need to nut 31 times. In total, participants need to ejaculate 496 times in December.

While the exact origin of NNN is not clear, but it can be traced back to an Urban Dictionary entry submitted by a user that goes with the name "bicboi6969696969."

The post was shared on November 3, 2011, defining “No Nut November” as a challenge in which "an individual must not masturbate for the month of November.”

NNN was originally a satirical challenge to challenge people's claim that abstaining from ejaculating and not watching pornography have health benefits.

Many claimed to believe that not ejaculating can cure certain diseases, including fatigue, laziness, gastrointestinal issues, anxiety, depression, and more.

Then, the movement started to gain increased popularity in 2017, thanks to netizens associating it with the NoFap community on Reddit, which encourages its members not to masturbate.

The growing coalition of people who don't "fap" used this challenge as a motivation to push their no-nutting agenda, and to indoctrinate more men who were seeking drastic life changes through the "brotherhood."

On online conversations, this "brotherhood" support each other, and urge members to not post anything sexually explicit, and refrain from sharing racy photos or comments. Participants help each other in their effort, and disgrace those who make the challenge more challenging to their comrades.

Besides acting as a kind of support network for abstainers, members are known to use the online groups to share personal anecdotes and offer encouragement to one another as many of their fellow chaste men struggle through the month.

"Throw any lotion in the house away and take it to the garbage can. Take the bar of soap out of the shower and toss it. Plan your day to minimize alone time, maximize productivity, and spend time at the gym. Tell yourself how you will respond to a dozen different scenarios so that they won't catch you with your pants down, literally," said one Reddit user.

"This war is only just beginning, but you are not alone. Stand strong and fight like hell for your brothers and sisters beside you and your own future."

The NNN challenge became increasingly viral when some far-right public figures, like Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes, promoted the campaign.

The Reddit community /r/NoNutNovember grew to 16,500 subscribers in November 2018.

Realizing this challenge and "trend", porn platform xHamster sent a tweet about NNN and NoFap, calling them "anti-sex killjoys" who are pedaling "bad science."

While many claimed that abstaining from ejaculating gave them benefits, and that some said their lives have changed for the better, there is no medical and scientific claims that support the alleged benefit of not ejaculating.

Men who don't ejaculate, will have their sperm reabsorbed, since the body has the ability to break down unreleased sperm.

While this allows the body to retrieve the nutrients contained in the sperm, research suggests that although no significant risks can be associated with semen retention, there are more potential health benefits that can be gained by indulging in orgasms and ejaculating than by abstaining it.

It's worth noting though, that because it's an internet challenge, some people become participants just for the sake of the meme.

Participants are known online as "Nut Vanquishers", "Thot Slayers" and "soldiers."
