YouTube hosted a channel in which in almost single minute, 24 hours a day, a new 11-second video was uploaded. Unlike most other YouTube videos, the Webdriver Torso's videos were just showing a random blue and red shapes with beeping sounds.
Curious people have tried to figure out what the channel was all about. Some thought that it was a modern version of a number station which were cryptic radio signals used during the Cold War. Some even thought that the videos were methods of aliens trying to communicate with humans.
In June 2014, Google that maintains YouTube answered the questions and rumors. The company said that those videos were nothing more than a test account created by YouTube itself.
"We're never gonna give you uploading that's slow or loses video quality, and we're never gonna let you down by playing YouTube in poor video quality. That's why we're always running tests like Webdriver Torso," said Google.
Despite the answers, there were still some skeptics that still believe this is just a cover up.
