A live-streaming host known as 'Seaside Girl Little Seven' often posts video clips of her eating a variety of seafood delicacies.
But at one time, in order to gain more popularity, she tried something different.
Live on popular short-video platform Kwai, or also known as Kuaishou in China, the woman tried to eat a live octopus.
However, in the 52-second video that was livestreamed, the woman was seen struggling, and battling the eight-armed mollusc as the creature tried to defend itself from being eaten by sticking on her face using its incredibly strong suctions.
As a result, the woman in most of the length of the video, was shown crying in pain as she desperately tried to remove the animal’s tentacles from her face.
Her face became nearly distorted in the process.
“Look at how hard it’s sucking!” she exclaims, as the animal's suction-cupped tentacles begin to cover half of her face.
She was giggling at first. But as she tried to get hold of the situation, she realized that the animal she was trying to eat was fighting back with all of its might. By the time she knew that the octopus wasn't willing to go down without a fight, was the time that she started panicking.
The mortal struggle between the woman and the octopus continued for a while longer.
“It hurts, it hurts, it hurts!” she screams. “I can’t get it off, I can’t get it off! Oh my God!”
But as soon as the animal sees her as a lesser threat, it eventually gave in and let her go.
The video ends with Seaside Girl finally detaching the animal from her lips, cheeks, and eyelids, and tearfully telling viewers, “I’ll eat it in the next video.”
The animal even drawn blood from her cheek, prompting her to cry, “My face is disfigured!”
Seaside Girl Little Seven lives in the city of Lianyungang, in Jiangsu province, China. She loves seafood, according to her Kuaishou account.
She started her live-streaming channel about two weeks before the incident, eating a variety of cooked seafood including crayfish and lobsters.
But despite how short her career is, Seaside Girl Little Seven has already complained about not getting enough attention from her potential viewers. “Why [have] none of my clips ended up on the trending topics chart?” she reportedly said in a previous clip.
While many influencers and people trying to be famous on the internet tried to trick themselves, and their followers, by bolstering the illusion of life, others do the unthinkable in a bid for attention and approval. Some, like this woman, was criticized for doing a crazy thing by attempting to devour the live octopus.
When the 52-second clip was live-streamed on video-sharing app Kuaishou in March, it actually became a viral sensation when it was shared on social media Weibo.
Unsurprisingly, netizens’ reactions to the her video were largely unsympathetic, with many calling her “stupid,” and some describing the incident as “karma.” Others expressed more concern for the octopus, and wanted to know if it was alright.
Kuaishou is backed by Tencent, it's widely criticised as a platform that poor people livestream self-hurt or abusive videos to gain fame and reward from viewers.
Previously, some of its users have put their live at risk, to do risky acts, like swallowing live insects, reptiles, seafood or even sand and lightbulbs.
Some even abused children and animals for recognition.
The most notable, was in February 2019, when a 28-years-old live-streamer called Hao jumped into a river, and cracked his skull and drowned in front of the camera. His last word was "if I'm famous I don't have to work anymore," local media reports.
