Apple Intelligence Gets More AI-Powered Features, Including The Long-Awaited 'Genmoji'

Generative AI is all the hype, and Apple is now playing its cards.

After OpenAI introduced ChatGPT, tech companies, both large and small, began their arms race, developing products at a staggering pace. But Apple is unlike most other tech companies that dive in headfirst into the competition.

Apple was taking things slowly.

Then, back in June, after more than a year of generative AI dominating headlines, Apple finally entered the race with what it calls 'Apple Intelligence.'

Now, as part of Apple’s AI and Intelligence initiatives, Apple has released what it calls the 'Genmoji' feature.

This feature allows users to express themselves with emojis that are uniquely theirs — crafted by AI to match their style, mood, and personality.

It’s a whole new level of personal expression powered by AI.

In a newsroom post, Apple said that:

"With the power of Apple Intelligence, emoji is taken to the next level with Genmoji, making conversations with family and friends more fun and playful, and opening up entirely new ways to communicate."

According to a dedicated support page, users who want to create Genmoji can type what they want to create in the emoji keyboard. From there, the Genmoji feature will give them multiple options to choose from.

If they want, users can then use images from their photo library, to take Genmoji even further by creating one that is inspired by a friend or family member.

Users can personalize their Genmoji creations by adding accessories like hats, sunglasses, or customizing themes and activities, making each emoji truly unique.

Similar to standard emojis, Genmojis can be inserted directly into messages, shared as stickers, or used as reactions in Tapback conversations.

Genmoji is officially launched during the release of iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2, which brings a set of Apple Intelligence features to elevate users’ experience with iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and builds on the first set of capabilities already introduced.

Besides Genmoji, Apple also introduces what it calls 'Image Playground,' which allows users to explore creating new ways to express themselves visually.

Then, there is the 'Writing Tools,' which lets users make their writing more dynamic.

Building on Apple Intelligence, users of iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Pro can instantly learn more about their surroundings with visual intelligence with Camera Control. And now with ChatGPT integrated into Writing Tools and Siri, users can tap into ChatGPT’s expertise without having to switch between apps, helping them get things done faster and easier than ever before.

The new AI features also marks the beginning of Apple Intelligence language expansion with localized English support for Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK..
