When an opponent is too big to be attacked heads on, the wisest strategy is to hit it in places it cannot hit back.
Brave Software, Inc. is a company best known for creating Brave, the free and open-source web browser that focuses on privacy. Not just that, because it has ventured onwards to also introduce its own search engine it calls the 'Brave Search'.
The search engine that is independent, promises a capable search experience that isn't influenced by Big Tech.
And this time, Brave announced that Brave Search can finally offer private image and video search capabilities.
According to its announcement:
"Now any Brave Search query can be served directly from Brave’s own index, enabling users to benefit from a fully independent search engine that protects their privacy and is censorship-resistant. Our recently released Brave Search API will also imminently include these image/video results."
When Brave Search announced that it stopped using Bing to help construct its search results, it's on its own.
The service compensate its less powerful search engine by giving users the option to get alternative image/search results via Big Tech. It bridged the gap by offering users to choose competing products.
But Brave is no longer a small company, and along the years, it has grown and matured.
This time, Brave boldly provides its own solution for image and search search engine, which it describes as “sustainable, privacy-preserving, and independent.”

"Additionally, by keeping all searches within the Brave ecosystem, users benefit from increased speed and privacy when compared with the multiple search engines that rely on third-party providers.
To ensure that others can also make use of its search engine capabilities, Brave also said that its Brave Search API has been updated to also "imminently include these image/video results."
It's worth noting though, that Brave Search's search result cannot be compared to Bing, yet alone Google.
For example, certain capabilities are unavailable, such as the ability to use advanced filters like aspect ratio and license type
But still, as a smaller search engine, Brave has certainly picked up its pace pretty fast, and that it thrives because it can provide privacy, in a way that neither Bing or Google can ever do.
Brave is evolving, and it's evolving fast. And for this time, the company believes that it’s more important to offer a clear alternative than complete feature parity.
