Celebrating Its Sixth Birthday, Snapchat Adds 'Sky Filters’ And More 3D Bitmoji Lenses

Snapchat was born on September 2011. Fast forward to September 2017, it's celebrating its sixth birthday. And no birthday comes without some celebration.

The popular app is adding ‘Sky Filters’ that is a new set of filters to the app

It's designed to detect the sky in photos and offer a carousel of effects that can alter the sky’s appearance. For example, users can flick through various sky options, with the ability to turn daytime shots into night shots.

Some of the filters include a starry night, stormy clouds and a stunning sunset.

If users don't see one they like, they can just check again the following day because Snapchat will continue to rotate the sky filters that are available on a daily basis in the same way it switches up which Face Lenses.

To use one of the new Sky Filters in Snaps, users just need to take a photo, and make sure that the sky is visible.

When the app detects the sky, the new filters will automatically be available in the filter carousel with others users are used to, including the time stamp, black and white filter, and location-specific Geofilters.

They can then swipe from right to left on the screen to see how the different options look.

Initially, the Sky Filter is only available on still photos, not videos.

Snapchat is also adding more 3D Bitmoji lenses to its Snapchat app.

The new set of bitmoji was first introduced a week prior. It's Snapchat's way for allowing users to interact and play with cartoons in the real-world. In its sixth year anniversary, Snapchat is adding more 3D Bitmoji lenses to the already existing ones.

Sky Filters are undoubtedly part of Snapchat's continued push into augmented reality. The feature is rolling out gradually to all users on both iOS and Android

Snapchat has also offered ways to edit pictures, including Magic Tint and Backdrops.

The app has released 25 updates in 2017 alone, including Paintbrush, Custom Stickers, Shazam, Search, World Lenses, Group and Geo stories, 3D Bitmoji, and more.
