Wanting new clothes isn’t vanity. It’s instinct. It’s the way people renew themselves without saying a word.

When someone uses a fresh outfit, it can their change mood, confidence, even how the world treats them. It’s not about excess—it’s about expression. About craving that little dopamine hit when finding the one—the jacket that sharpens silhouette, the dress that clings in all the right ways, or that clean, crisp shirt that feels like a reset button.

Traditionally, finding and trying new clothes involves visiting a store to see what’s on display, pick the right one, and step into a fitting room for that quiet moment of transformation. It’s a tactile experience—part treasure hunt, part personal reveal.

But when the internet comes into play, people can simply look for what they want online, and purchase them, fast and easy.

However, buying new clothes without trying them first can feel like a gamble—one that teeters between the thrill of a perfect fit and the disappointment of unmet expectations.

This is where Google wants to address with 'Doppl.'

In a blog post, Google said that:

"We're introducing Doppl, a new experimental app from Google Labs to help you visualize how an outfit might look on you and explore your style. Doppl’s virtual try-on makes it fun and easy to see any outfit on a digital, animated version of yourself."

Using Doppl is like playing dress-up, but smarter, sleeker, and without ever stepping into a dressing room.

With it, users can try on various outfits virtually by uploading photos or screenshots.

Found a killer streetwear look on social media? Adore what a friend is wearing? Or maybe found something on display in some store? Users can just snap a photo of it and upload it alongside a photo of themselves to Doppl.

The app will then generate the user with the new outfit on.

And in order to make the experience even more realistic, Doppl can transform these still images into AI-generated videos, giving users a better sense of how the outfit would move and look in real life.

Google said that Doppl builds on Google Shopping’s recently launched capabilities that allow users to try on clothes virtually.

By launching the functionality in a standalone app, Google is making the feature easier to access while allowing people to explore their style in a fun and interactive way.

It's worth noting that this isn't the first time Google offers virtual try-on technology. However, earlier features focused only on showing items on a diverse range of models’ bodies. With Doppl, the company is letting users try clothes on an animated version of their own body.

"We hope Doppl helps you explore your style in new and exciting ways," said Google.

"As a Google Labs experiment, Doppl is in its early days and it might not always get things right. Fit, appearance and clothing details may not always be accurate."
