Google Introduces Verification Requirement For Each Website On AdSense

Google has introduced an update to the process of monetizing new websites using AdSense.

Previously, once account holders have been allowed to monetize one of their website using AdSense, they could simply add their existing AdSense code to a new site without having to set it up as a separate website on their AdSense account.

Things are changing as Google updates the process.

This time, each and every new website that wants to be monetized using AdSense, is required to go through a verification process to check that the account holder do own the domain, or have the ability to modify its content and to review the site for AdSense policy compliance.

After the reviewing process, Google will then show the status of the website.

When sites get approved, AdSense will mark them as 'Ready', and users can start displaying AdSense ads. The change applies to new and existing AdSense account holders. But if the site is not approved, AdSense will mark them as 'Needs attention.'

This will give site owners the opportunity to correct the issues that prevented their site from being approved during the first review.

With this update, Google is also doing a minor change to how websites show on holders' account, by renaming the 'My Sites' to 'Sites' and making it more prominent in the navigation menu.

Previous AdSense account holders don't have to do anything. But starting with the update, AdSense account holders may need to confirm the correct ad code when adding a new website. In those cases, Google said that it will contact those account holders via email.

AdSense - add new site
Google said this update has a minimal impact on most AdSense publishers

According to Google announcing the change:

"For the vast majority of AdSense users, the only change will be the new Sites tab. However, for some of you, we may ask for help to find the correct ad code when you add a new site. If we require your help, we’ll reach out through email and notify you when you sign in to AdSense. So don’t forget to make sure we have the correct email address for you and that your email preferences are up to date."

The change is part of Google's strategy to improve brands' safety, and also due to its participation on the Better Ads Standards that have been commencing for years. It's quite a surprise that it took Google a while to introduce this update.

AdSense has a lot of policies. And this strategy is also to ease Google in policing its ads and publishers, to make sure that no ads show up on sites with racist or hateful content, or content that incites violence.

"Continuing our work on quality in AdSense makes it more attractive to advertisers which in turn leads to better outcomes for our partners," said Google.
