To Help Developers, IBM Introduces AI That Can Automatically Label Images

IBM Developer

Training image-recognition AI can be difficult as it involves developers in manually labeling a lot of images for the AI to learn.

But what if there is a tool that can do the daunting task automatically? This is what IBM is aiming for, as it created an AI to do just the thing. Available for everyone, the IBM Cloud Annotations tool is meant to be the automatic labeling tool to help developers train their AIs.

To use this tool, developers need to do the following:

  1. Open the IBM Cloud Annotation tool from their desktop computer, to then upload and label a subset of photos.
  2. Follow the instructions to start training their model.
  3. Tap 'Auto label' in the interface to have the tool automatically annotate the images.
  4. Review the newly generated labels as they come.

IBM has developed plenty of tools for developers to get started with machine learning.

This automated labeling tool in available through the IBM Cloud Annotations project, which is a collaborative open source image annotation tool. Backed by IBM Cloud Object Storage, Cloud Annotations enables developers to store as much data as they need, access the data from anywhere and share across multiple collaborators in real-time.

IBM launched this AI-powered automatic labeling tool as an early beta.

it should come helpful in the cases where developers need to label things fast. This tool can speed up the process of labeling, and allows developers to focus their efforts on some other more important tasks.

IBM said on its blog post:

"Currently, it takes 200-500 samples of hand-labeled images for a model to detect one specific object. Autolableing images speeds the process and gives developers back valuable time to work on other innovative projects."
