Helping Small Businesses, Indonesia's Bukalapak Partners With Google My Business

Indonesia is vast, and with a population of more than 260 million, the country is indeed the driver of the Southeast Asian market.

However, according to Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, until February 2019, micro, small and medium enterprises that have adopted at least some modern technology and the internet to help their businesses, accounted to only 9.61 million.

This is a small number, considering that it is only 16.33% of the 58.9 million registered small- and medium-sized businesses throughout Indonesia.

To help those micro, small and medium enterprises, Indonesia's fourth unicorn Bukalapak is registering its 'Warung Mitra Bukalapak' (Bukalapak Partners) to Google My Business.

What this means, according to co-founder and President of Bukalapak Muhamad Fajrin Rasyid, this should help those businesses to show up on Google Search and Google Maps.

"We're partnering with Google to launch our partners at Bukalapak to Google My Business. There are already seeing around 100 thousand partners registered to Google My Business with this partnership."

By allowing Bukalapak Partners to register their businesses to Google My Business directly through its apps, according to Fajrin Rasyid, owners will have their business shown on Google Search or Google Maps. With queries like "warung" (shop) or "frozen food", Google users will see Bukalapak's Partners closest to them, complete with the business' description and their location on the map.

This should make Google users to easily find those small businesses.

In turn, those businesses will benefit from the modern-days technology. They will have more reach, which will potentially increase their revenue.

As one of the top executives at Bukalapak, Fajrin Rasyid said that technology isn't all about sophistication or advancements. What's more important is how to make the technology solve problems.

"Problems differ from one country to the next. If we ask ourselves whether Indonesia needs an automated shop, we can say that this won't be feasible in the foreseeable future. Instead, many small businesses in Indonesia need help. So the answer is: how can we implement current technology to these small businesses.

"This is what we at Bukalapak are doing, and that is also what we'll continue to do."
