Generative AIs are getting smarter, and that they're also customizable to users' needs.
OpenAI has what it calls the ChatGPT, the formidable generative AI that created the hype that sent ripples throughout the tech sphere. With more and more rivals, OpenAI is keeping itself ahead by introducing new features whenever it can.
And this time, even while users and researchers continue to debate how the performance of ChatGPT has changed over time, OpenAI is giving ChatGPT a huge update.
According to Logan Kilpatrick, OpenAI’s first developer advocate and developer relations expert:
Huge set of ChatGPT updates are rolling out over the next week
1. Example prompts: No more staring at a blank page!
2. Suggested replies: ChatGPT automatically synthesizes follow up questions. I’ve been using this the last month and it is very useful to reduce fatigue.…— Logan.GPT (@OfficialLoganK) August 3, 2023
Among the new features Kilpatrick highlighted, include prompts, suggested replies and follow-up questions.
After that, there is the support for multiple file uploads when using the OpenAI Code Interpreter plugin, and more.
This feature, said OpenAI, is one of the most requested features.
With the feature, ChatGPT Plus subscribers can now ask the AI to "analyze data and generate insights across multiple files," allowing uploads of more than one file at a time using the Code Interpreter beta.
ChatGPT is also allowing users to remain logged in after they leave the website for more than two weeks.
An on the aesthetic side, OpenAI said that "a blank page can be intimidating." Because of this, at the beginning of a new chat, users should see examples to help them get started with ChatGPT.
OpenAI also adds basic control of the website to speed up the process of copying and deleting chats and responses.
And importantly, GPT-4 is the default for ChatGPT Plus users.
We’re rolling out a bunch of small updates to improve the ChatGPT experience. Shipping over the next week:
1. Prompt examples: A blank page can be intimidating. At the beginning of a new chat, you’ll now see examples to help you get started.
2. Suggested replies: Go deeper with…— OpenAI (@OpenAI) August 3, 2023
While the update brings a lo to the table, initial reactions from users were kind of mixed.
While some praised the new features, including GPT-4 by default and one that allows users to "stay logged in" beyond the previous two-week period, others on the OpenAI and ChatGPT communities on Reddit asked “Is it going to stop apologizing too? I sure hope so.”
Some others criticized the addition of example prompts as being "terrible for someone with ADHD," because they are distracting.
Regardless, the updated ChatGPT with the added collection of expanded features should streamline users' interaction with the generative AI chatbot and encourage more sign-ups for ChatGPT Plus and its extra features.
The idea is to motivating users to use the AI more often, and keep conversing when they're at it.
