The Indonesia Cellular Show (ICS), an annual mobile telecommunication fair, aims to attract at least 10 percent more visitors this year than last year, owing to the strong interest consumers have in the latest mobile devices.
The Indonesia's largest mobile exhibition was opened by the Minister of Communications and Information, Tifatul Sembiring. In his acceptance speech, Sembiring hopes that the technology industry in Indonesia has a vision for the future so as not to lose from others abroad.
"If we are not very clever, then we will be a coolie in our own country. We need a vision far ahead," he said.
This ICS 2013 theme is "Small Things Infinite Possibility". The theme is meant to raise the important role of mobile phones that are now an integral part of human life. The show, which opened on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, will run until June 16.
Mirna Gozal, spokesperson and show organizer for PT. Dyandra Promosindo, said they expect a 10-15 percent increase in visitor numbers compared to last year.
"This year, we expect to welcome around 220,000 consumers," she said.
She added that alongside the increase in visitors, the organizers expected transaction value to move up 3-5 percent.
"The growth of the economy, which has resulted in the expansion of the middle class consumer segment, is behind the increase in both visitor numbers and transaction value," she said.
She added that the show served as an event for participants - consisting of 23 mobile phone companies, 19 brand principals and 4 cellular operators - to showcase their latest products, besides scoring sales. The event is held in Jakarta Convention Center's (JCC) Plennary Hall and Main Lobby with a 7,500 square meters space.
Bambang Setiawan, the COO of Dyandra Promosindo, said that the 10th ICS show events are focused on showcasing products in the middle-up price brand to cater to market tastes. He further said that 70 percent of the brands presented at the show were global brands. "The remaining brands are domestic," he noted.
The events on the show include other programs which are: "Android Party", mobile game competition, Instagram photo contest, and Android community gathering. Not only the show brings joy, ICS 2013 also cares to educate people with seminars, like "Mobile Cloud Computing: Business Behind Cloud Computing and "Increase Business with WiFi”". These seminars are meant to increase the inspiration for visitors.
ICS 2013 is also presenting Indonesia Cellular Award, a program to give appreciation to best mobile products and best cellular operator in 2012-2013.
ICS 2013, in conjunction with the 15th Festival Komputer Indonesia (FKI), or Computer Festival Indonesia, is held in six major cities in Indonesia this year. Visitors will be pampered with a mobile exhibition of products and computers, all in one area. For additional information, ICS and FKI in Jakarta last year managed to visit 197 378 people, bringing the total visitors of 398,622 people in 6 cities with up to Rp 587 billion (about $59 million) transactions.
