Instagram Starts Showing When Users Were Last Active: A Feature Never Been Asked

Improvement is the key to success. And here, another day another change. For Instagram users, they are seeing a feature that they have probably least expected.

With the photo-sharing app continues to build itself by adding new features that have been available on other popular apps, it has added a feature that allows people you follow or have previously chatted with, to see when you were last using Instagram.

The feature is called 'Show Activity Status', and it's rolling out to both iOS and Android users.

The feature displays a line indicating the last time a user was active on its platform directly underneath their username. Initially, the activity status is visible only in direct messages.

At first, this feature may be annoying. While it's turned on by default inside Instagram's settings, users do have the option to toggle it off if they want to.

But if you disable activity status for yourself, you won’t be able to see when other people were last active.

It should be noted that the feature doesn’t tell everyone when you were last seen on Instagram.

It's only available to those people with whom you have shared private message, or those that have been tagged in your Instagram Stories. Those people can see when was the last time you opened the app, or the last time you were on the Instagram messaging screen.

if you don’t think people really needs to be that up-to-date on what you’re doing, or you want to keep your Instagram habit to yourself, you can turn off the feature easily by heading to the settings page.

Just go to your profile page and click the gear settings underneath your name. which is located next to the "Edit Profile." Inside the settings menu, there is a toggle that says "Show Activity Status."

Previous tweak to Instagram experience, include an indicator that makes it easier to see if an account follows you. For example, looking at someone's profile who follows you, will show a "Follow Back" instead of "Follow."
