'MasterWiki' Stole MasterClass' Contents, And Turned Them Into Free WikiHow Articles

MasterWiki

MasterClass provides quality educational content for a price, whereas WikiHow provides free how-to articles.

A website simply called 'MasterWiki, combines them together. It repackaged MasterClass' yearly $180 learning resources which are made by professionals, into free WikiHow article guides that bring the best of both worlds.

According to its About section:

"We stole MasterClass' content and turned it into wikiHow articles."

"MasterClass is an exclusive online education platform that costs $180 annually to learn (relatively ordinary skills) from A-list celebrities. masterWiki is the direct adaptation of MasterClass' video courses translated into wikiHow-style how-to guides, made available at no cost to you."

MasterClass' contents were created by professionals in their respective fields.

From celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay teaching how to cook, film director Spike Lee saying things about creating independent films, to screenwriter Aaron Sorkin teaching how to write a screenplay, journalist Malcom Gladwell teaching how to write, and so on.

WikiHow on the other hand, has articles written by contributors that aren't always famous experts in their fields.

MasterWiki here, essentially combines MasterClass' sources of knowledge by ripping them off, to then create an entertaining format in a WikiHow presentation style.

The site was created for those who are curious about MasterClass, but don't want to pay its price tag or spend dozens of hours watching videos.

An entire legitimate MasterClass' class can run anywhere between two to five hours. A lesson within that class can be as long as a few minutes to about thirty-minutes.

MasterWiki puts those classes into written text that is easy to digest, fit within consumable contents with illustrations, filled with bullet-points to highlight the cores.

But because of the repackaging, MasterWiki's articles may not be as informative as their originals at MasterClass. But even though that they're packed with crude drawings, the site can still be much of a help to those who hunger for free information on the web.

MasterWiki was created by the creative group MSCHF, which has a history of creating apps, websites and art projects that go viral online.

In the past, MSCHF has used piracy as a hook for projects.

For example, back in March, the team launched a pirate streaming service that aired shows from Netflix, Hulu, HBO, and more.

Then in May, the group aired recreations of episodes of The Office inside of a Slack channel.

MSCHF also made headlines when it created Chrome extension that hides Netflix in a conference call, and with its tool that turns any Wikipedia entry into a legit academic paper.

MasterWiki as one of the team's project, isn't shy about saying that its lessons were “stolen from MasterClass.”

It should be noted that MSCHF didn't copy everything from MasterClass. The lessons are also not downloadable.

Just like how some of its past projects were taken down (by Grubhub and Slack), MSCHF fully expects MasterWiki to be shut down sooner or later.
