Mozilla Launches Firefox Rocket Browser For Users In Indonesia

Mozilla has released a web browser called Firefox Rocket, initially for the Indonesian market. At the moment of announcement, the browser was designed for mobile platform, and in beta testing.

According to the company, Firefox Rocket is "a light but feature-packed browser that lets you save data and phone storage, capture and share content, and browse quickly even on slow connections." The browser highlights Turbo Mode which hides third-party contents such as ads, save data and speed browsing capabilities by blocking images, the ability to clear cache and free up phone space without clearing history, and capture web pages with Screenshot.

Some of these features are also available in other Firefox versions, while others are initially exclusive to Firefox Rocket.

At the moment of Introduction, Firefox Rocket is only ready for beta download for users in Indonesia. Others can get the .apk file from GItHub. It's only 2MB in size and compatible with all Android devices running Lollipop or above.

Previously also in 2017, Mozilla announced 'Project Quantum' which was meant to become the next engine for its web browsers. After a year of development, Mozilla has squashed more than 500 bugs that affected performance and security.

With the rising number of users in Southeast Asia, Indonesia has become the 5th largest in the world in terms of number of internet users. The people in the nation have also embraced "mobile first" where almost 70 percent of its internet population accessing the web using mobile devices.

This makes Indonesia a potential market for Mozilla and its Firefox browser.

However, Indonesia is a country not known for its speedy internet connection. While people in large cities and many places in the suburban area do enjoy a relatively fast and stable connection, most that live beyond that, especially when considering Indonesia's massive archipelago, don't have the connectivity that can be considered reliable.

For this particular reason, Mozilla tests Firefox Rocket is the country in the hopes of people in finding it useful.

With the ability to be used on phones with limited storage space, users with budget smartphones would able to use the browser. And because the browser also has the ability to save data usage, it can be used even on low bandwidth thus saving money on the mobile data

Mozilla also boasted that Rocket can be fired up in one second, faster than any other browsers in the competition.
