Vine Introduces a More Friendly App Dedicated for Children

Vine KidsSocial media is interesting. As interesting as it gets, it can be frustrating from time to time. Finding kid-friendly contents on social media can be all work and no play. But Vine, the six-second video sharing app, has launched a standalone version dedicated for children, calling it Vine Kids.

Similar to the original app, Vine Kids also loops video contents. But what are shown is strictly filtered to be more friendly to younger family members.

From the million of Vines short videos created on the platform, the app pulls and chooses only those that are appropriate for children. The interface of the Kids section of the app has also been tailored to be more fun for children, showing a new Vine each time the user swipes left or right and playing child-entertaining 'quirky' sounds each time the user taps the screen.

So instead of scrolling down a news feed without knowing what's going to come next, Vine solved that problem by curating the experience so there will be no surprises. The swiping left and right is also natural and more easier for children to experience.

Short-form video content that can be seen within the app includes animated characters and animals.

From the official blog post:

"The idea came about during an office conversation in early January. One of my colleagues was talking about how much his two-year-old daughter loves Vine - he said he wished there was a separate app she could use to more easily watch posts that are appropriate for kids. That week happened to be Hack Week, a time when we get to work on projects outside of our day-to-day work. So two folks teamed up and built exactly that.

Vine that enables users to create stop-animation looping videos and share them, like them, and so forth, from a central feed, has added channels to help users discover new content. But Vine has always had content on the platform that is PG-13. And that concerns parents because their children can wander through the apps various channels and feeds, with possibility in leading them to some inappropriate materials.

Vine Kids is created to solve that very problem. With the app. parents can have less to worrying about because their kids won't bee seeing things they shouldn't.

The online platform was acquired by Twitter in October 2012, is Initially launching Vine Kids on iOS devices.

A Vine clip shared by Mashable below, shows how Vine Kids is: a plain simple app that gives youngsters a fun way to watch six-second videos.
