'Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness' Actress Face Harassment On Social Media Because Of LGBT Character

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the sequel of 2016's Doctor Strange, is where Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) explores deeper into the multiverse.

With it, Benedict Cumberbatch is reprising his role as Doctor Strange, a brilliant but arrogant neurosurgeon who becomes a Master of the Mystic Arts. Benedict Wong also returns as Wong, as well as Elizabeth Olsen returning as Wanda Maximoff (the Scarlet Witch).

A new character the MCU is introducing through this film, is America Chavez, a young Avenger.

The character that is portrayed by 2006-born Xochitl Gomez, not only has superhuman strength and speed, but also durability, and the ability to traverse the multiverse.

Because of Chavez's ability to use her gateways to travel between realities at will, she can also get insight into what's going on on the multiverse at large.

This inter-dimensional travel is a talent that should make her an exceptionally useful asset to Doctor Strange and his team.

While the world is anticipating this 28th film of the MCU, the governments of Saudi Arabia and Egypt are less than eager to show this film to their respective citizens.

That is because America Chavez is supposed to be a lesbian.

Due to the restrictions on both countries, Chavez's sexual orientation and the mention of her "two moms" has led to Multiverse of Madness being banned in both countries.

Saudi Arabia asked Disney to remove the 12-second scene that confirms her LGBTQIA+ identity, Disney refused to accept.

As a result, the film is unable to be released in the region.

Because not many can really complain about the two countries' decision, eager people who wish to watch the film became furious.

And that they target their anger at Gomez.

Unfortunately, for the girl, Gomez faced barrage of social media harassment for the film's ban.

People were complaining that it's Gomezs' fault that people in Saudi Arabia and Egypt cannot see Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Those people cursed and create harassment comments to the 15-year-old actress, who has literally no control over how the movie is distributed and produced, all that in the name of a supposed Marvel fans.

They've been trolling her, and bombarding her with attacks on her Instagram post.

One commenter called her "the reason [they] can't watch the movie [at the] cinema:"

"Get out of the Marvel universe! You destroyed Marvel so many countries refused!" one angry user said.

"We won't see the movie because of your character," one commenter said.

"I wish nothing but the worst to u," another said.

Another comment called for God to "deprive [her] of happiness in [her] life."

Gomez didn't close the comments feature on her Instagram posts, and instead of making a fuss about it, she even thanked some of the people who sent her positive messages.

"Thank you everyone for all the supportive DMs. You all have been so kind and lovely. It warms my heart!" she said in a captioned photo of herself wearing a rainbow-colored LGBTQ+-inspired sweater.

Saudi Arabia’s general supervisor of cinema classification Nawaf Alsabhan said that all his government asked Disney, is to remove the "barely 12 seconds” part of film that is "just [Chavez] talking about her moms:"

"It’s just her talking about her moms, because she has two moms."

As a Muslim country, any reference of LGBTQIA+ is outright banned, and because Alsabhan said that with the film release "being in the Middle East," it is "very tough to pass something like this."

The Saudi official said that Disney "told us they are not willing" to make any changes, forcing the government to literally ban the film from being released in the kingdom.
