HBO Max Becomes The Top Gainer Following ‘Zack Snyder's Justice League’

Zack Snyder's Justice League is the 2021 director's cut of the original American superhero film Justice League, which was released in 2017.

In the film, director Zack Snyder presented the fifth film of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), in a way that he had intended it to be, before he left the production.

The film came after the mixed reviews of the original film, as it was considered a box-office bomb. With fans expressing their interest in an alternate cut, many petitioned for the Snyder to deliver his version of Justice League. And as Warner Bros. re-evaluated the future of the DCEU, Snyder was given a go.

It cost Snyder around $70 million to complete the visual effects, score, and editing, as well as adding new material to complete his cut.

And when Snyder announced that the original cut would be released as Zack Snyder's Justice League via the streaming service HBO Max, fans couldn't wait.

With the anticipation high, the result is certain.

Lots of viewers flocked to HBO Max's streaming platform the day Zack Snyder's Justice League was premiered in the U.S., as well as other HBO platforms like HBO Go in a number of Asian countries and in HBO in some European countries, among others.

As a result, the streaming platform experienced the biggest increase in video streaming of the week, far surpassing others.

The WarnerMedia streaming platform experienced a massive 8.9% jump in users launching its mobile app, according to Bloomberg’s analysis of Apptopia data, which estimates mobile-app performance metrics such as downloads, in-app purchase revenue and daily active users by combining their data from more than 125,000 connected developer accounts, used as a learning set, with publicly available information.

And until March 28, downloads of the HBO Max app rose 64%.

According to Samba TV, 1.8 million American households watched at least the first five minutes of the film between March 19–21.

While this was behind the three-day total of DCEU film Wonder Woman 1984, it was ahead of MCU's (Marvel Cinematic Universe) The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which premiered at the same weekend on Disney+.

Samba TV however, reported that just one-third of households watched the film in its entirety in a single sitting.

Over its first full week of release, the film was watched by some 2.2 million households in the U.S..

Forbes estimated that if all HBO Max's new subscribers watched the film and stayed subscribed to the platform, Zack Snyder's Justice League would generate around $266 million in revenue for Warner Bros..

Critics generally considered the film an improvement over the 2017 Justice League, with most of the praises aimed toward Snyder's direction and the improved characterization, though the four-hour runtime received some criticism.

As for the biggest decline in streaming among top U.S. providers, was the sports streaming service DAZN.
