When Hollywood superstar Leonardo DiCaprio won his first Oscar for his performance in The Revenant, many people around the globe were celebrating the victory.
Not only that it took DiCaprio six nominations, but DiCaprio's win at Oscars was worth the wait, because not only the start took home the 'Best Actor' award with a standing ovation, but he also broke Twitter's record with his win.
According to Twitter, his Oscar-winning tweet generated more than 440,000 tweets per minute, claiming it as the most-tweeted minute of the Oscars history.
DiCaprio's tweet defeated Ellen DeGeneres's selfie tweet at the 2014 Oscars, which showed handful of Hollywood’s A-list stars, including Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Meryl Streep.
According to Twitter, that tweet record was set at 255,000 tweets per minute, far less than DiCaprio's.
Thank you to the Academy and the incredible cast & crew of #TheRevenant. #Oscars

DiCaprio’s Twitter victory was unlike the DeGeneres moment, which people considered as a product placement for Academy Awards advertiser Samsung.
At that time, it also raised questions about who owned the trademark to that image.
Leonardo DiCaprio’s moment on the other hand, spawned a record-breaking burst of Twitter activity due to subsequent tweet storm that was more of a spontaneous moment.
According to Twitter, there were a total of 24.2 million total Oscar-related tweets from 5:30PM to 1AM ET, yielding 3.9 billion overall impressions. In comparison, the 2015's Oscars had 3.7 billion tweet impressions in the first 48-hour period.
What the numbers mean is that, there was a higher activity on Twitter for the Oscars this 2016.
After DiCaprio’s win, the next most-tweeted Oscars moments were the Spotlight surprise win for best picture, followed by Mad Max: Fury Road picking up its sixth statue of the night, for sound mixing.
On other social media networks, DiCaprio also topped the chart.
On Facebook, DiCaprio was also followed by the Spotlight win, Lady Gaga performing best-song nominee Til It Happens to You and Alejandro González Iñárritu winning best director for Revenant.
The world’s biggest social service said 24 million people had 67 million interactions related to 88th Academy Awards, up from 21 million users and 58 million interactions in 2015. DiCaprio’s thank-you post on Facebook about the Oscars received more than 1.5 million likes in the first few hours.
Despite the huge gain in numbers, this is also showing how social media networks have grown in general.
From Twitter to Facebook and others in between, they have been ramping up their business to get more and more users, doing more and more interactions with posts.
