The first public release of Ruby was announced on Japanese domestic newsgroups. The dynamic, reflective, object-oriented, general-purpose programming language was designed and developed by Yukihiro "Matz" Matsumoto in Japan.

Ruby supports multiple programming paradigms, including functional, object-oriented, and imperative. It also has a dynamic type system and automatic memory management.

Ruby was first conceive on February 24, 1993.
