Someone Moved 50 Satoshi-Era Bitcoins For The First Time In 10 Years

02/10/2020

According to a report from the blockchain data monitoring Telegram bot BTCparsers, someone moved 50 Satoshi-era Bitcoins to a hot wallet at cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex.

The Bitcoins are known as “Satoshi-era” Bitcoins because they were mined around the time that Bitcoin’s pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, was still around on Bitcoin forums and taking part in Bitcoin’s development.

At that time, Bitcoin was only around one-and-a-half years old, and was worth anything.

And due to its obscurity, it was very cheap and easy to mine.

Because the Bitcoins are a decade old, this is why it was suggested that the individual moving the Bitcoins was either Satoshi Nakamoto himself, or a few other miners who were present at the time.

At its selling price at this date, the 50 Bitcoins is worth more than half a million dollars.

This kind of transaction is very rare, making the moment significant.

The Bitcoins were mined using blocks in the 3,000-to-4,000 range. These blocks came almost immediately after the cluster of blocks Satoshi is known to have mined in January 2009.

This fact makes these Bitcoins some of the oldest Bitcoins to have ever come to existence.

While their price of those old Bitcoins remains the same as any other and newer Bitcoins at a given time, their movement is considered newsworthy, as it fascinates to see how someone managed to hold into a digital asset for years before moving it.
