The Canadian singer Drake apparently sparked the “In My Feelings’ challenge, which quickly became one of the biggest social media moments of 2018.
The viral dance started when social media star Shiggy, shared a video of himself dancing in the streets and using moves that synced up to Drake's single ‘In My Feelings’, taken from his album ‘Scorpion’.
He posted it on his Instagram account, on the same day of the hit's release. And this started the "challenge" where people dance to Drake’s hit.
The trend quickly went viral, and started the "Shiggy Challenge", "Kiki Challenge" and "In My Feelings Challenge".
Fans use the hashtag #DoTheShiggy, #KekeChallenge and #InMyFeelingsChallenge to then inspire more people to create meme and videos.
Famous people include celebrities like Will Smith, DJ Khaled, Steve Aoki, Odell Beckham Jr., Millie Bobby Brown, Ryan Seacrest, J-Hope and also Drake himself.
People even used animals like cows, camels, goats and dogs as their unlikely stars for the video meme. The viral trend was interesting at first, according to Shiggy.
But when the challenge later spread to more places, as well to other parts of the world, it escalated into a worrying trend: people started doing the "challenge" dances beside moving vehicles.
The trend has caused controversy and public concerns, and made some people arrested, fined, robbed and even injured.
Shiggy was concerned when he realized this dangerous version of the trend.
He said that he never intended for moving cars to be part of the entertainment. Fans are unnecessarily putting themselves at risk by doing the viral dance in the middle of busy streets.
