Adobe Brings Its 'Firefly' AI Image Generator To Enhance Its Array Of Design Tools

The AI field was quite dull, and boring, and kind of slow-paced. But things have changed.

It all stared when OpenAI introduced ChatGPT as a AI chatbot tool. The AI is able to do a wide range of tasks with human-like capabilities, including writing poetry, technical papers, novels, and essays.

After it managed to captivate the internet, the rest is history.

OpenAI has made other tech companies to create their own versions of generative AI.

After Google with Bard, Microsoft with its Bing AI ChatGPT-powered chatbot, after Snapchat with My AI, and after Meta with LLaMA, and LinkedIn AI profile creator, after Claude, as well as Spotify's DJ feature, and lots more, it's Adobe's turn.

It did that by introducing 'Firefly'.

Less than a month later, Adobe is ramping things up a notch.

Firefly’s original focus was only to generate commercially safe images. But this time, the company is pushing the technology beyond still images, and to realms of videos, audios and animations.

According to the company in a blog post, Firefly is planned for an integration with Adobe's Creative Cloud video and audio applications.

In the examples, Adobe showcased that users can use Firefly for things like changing the desired mood and tone of a scene.

Adobe also said that Firefly should be able to help editors create subtitles, logos and title cards. and that users can make use of the AI by only describing what they want them to look like.

The real game changer here is that, Adobe also plans to use Firefly to read scripts and automatically generate storyboards and pre-visualizations.

According to Adobe, the feature is meant for Premiere Pro subscribers.

It’s worth noting that initially, these features are only showcased, and only on Adobe's own demos.

The goal of these features, is to ensure that all of its generative AI tools are safe to use in a commercial environment.

But the word "safe" here means that Adobe only allows the AI to learn from a limited number of images that were either in public domain or part of its Adobe Stock service. What this means, Firefly should be more limited when compared to the likes of Midjourney or Stable Diffusion.

Regardless, the AI should help users perform certain special effects and editing tasks that are often labor-intensive.

With the AI, Adobe aims to streamline that process with generative AI assistance.

In a separate but related announcement, Adobe announced that it is integrating text-based video editing into Adobe Premiere Pro, which is aimed to allow editors to trim and re-arrange video based on automatically detected transcripts of speech pulled from video clips.
