Adobe Introduces More Generative AI Features To Illustrator And Photoshop

Adobe

The AI field was quite dull, boring, and kind of slow-paced. But things have changed.

It all started when OpenAI introduced ChatGPT as a AI chatbot tool. The AI is able to do a wide range of tasks with human-like capabilities, including writing poetry, technical papers, novels, and essays.

After it managed to captivate the internet, the rest is history.

Adobe was quick in playing catch up, and introduced what it calls the 'Firefly'.

In the art and design worlds, Adobe picked up the trends following OpenAI's introduction of DALL·E 2, meant to enhance its array to design tools.

This time, Adobe introduces some new tools and generative AI features to its Illustrator and Photoshop design software that aim to help speed up creative workflows.

The most notable updates coming to Illustrator, are powered by Adobe's Firefly Vector 2 AI model, which has been made available in public beta.

Firefly Vector 2 is initially meant to power Illustrator features, like Generative Shape Fill, which allows users to add detailed vectors to shapes through descriptive text prompts.

The updated model also improves the Text to Pattern beta feature, which allows users to create scalable, customized vector patterns, like wallpapers.

Then, then is also the Style Reference, which generates outputs that mirror existing styles.

After that, there is the Text to Pattern that does exactly what its name says, which is generating a repeating, editable pattern based on a user's description.

Besides generative AI, Adobe also brings the Illustrator update to introduces the Dimension tool that automatically adds sizing information for projects, a Mockup feature for previewing what designs look like on 3D products, and Retype for converting static text in images into something that can be edited.

"Our goal is to empower all creative professionals to realize their creative visions," Deepa Subramaniam, Adobe Creative Cloud’s vice president of product marketing.

"We believe that every massive technology shift offers opportunities to deliver new products and innovations to our customers, and we are focused on harnessing the power of generative AI to amplify human creativity and expression, not replace it."

Like previously said, Adobe is also adding AI features to Photoshop.

Here, the Generate Image feature, which is powered by Adobe’s latest Firefly Image 3 Model, has been made generally available to all Photoshop users on desktop and web apps, and the Enhance Detail feature for Generative Fill can now provide "greater sharpness and detail" when used on large images.

Then, the Selection Brush tool, which also has been made generally available, allows users to more easily select and separate specific objects from the canvas by painting over them.

Aiming to accelerate creative workflows, the enhancements should be able to empower creators to make complex edits and unique designs

These AI features are meant to unlock new design possibilities for creative professionals.

"Creativity is a uniquely human trait and our mission is to deliver the most innovative tools that accelerate ideation and inspire the creative community to unlock their imagination," said Ashley Still, senior vice president of digital media at Adobe.

"These new innovations in Illustrator and Photoshop are built directly into designers’ workflows, allowing them to work faster and focus on what they do best — drawing, designing, and bringing their creative visions to life."
