The increasing popularity of cryptocurrencies in 2017, especially for Bitcoin, has brought a lot of attention to the market.
Investors around the world have entered the cryptomarket, betting their money for significant gains. And this is where there was a need for a source to track all those cryptocurrency values. CoinMarketCap entered the market at the right time, and quickly became the popular source for tracking the values of different digital coins.
In a short amount of time, CoinMarketCap.com website attracted huge traffic, making it rank high among the top 500 websites in the world, according to Amazon’s Alexa.
It's interesting that CoinMarketCap has not put that much effort in marketing itself, nor expanding itself to take real advantages of its popularity.
With all cryptocurrencies combined being worth around $400 billion in total, CoinMarketCap has positioned itself at the center of the events.

In its fifth anniversary since starting the website, in May 1st 2018, CoinMarketCap finally shows its teeth on the mobile sphere by launching its own iOS app.
This is something that cryptocurrency enthusiasts have long been waiting for, and it does exactly what it is supposed to do.
The app allows users to sort different coins by their name, rank, price, as well as the percentage price change within the last 24 hours, 7 days, as well as 30 days. It also allows users to switch between different coins, and create a list of coins based on their interest.
“We monitor the incoming requests of users, pay attention to what people want to see and how they can get the most out of our data. We are glad that we can meet a lot of requests today,” said Brandon Chez, CEO of CoinMarketCap.
At the bottom of the app is a banner ad, which may be annoying to some users. However, as of yet, there is nothing that can be done about it, since an ad-free version of the app still doesn’t exist.
Initially, the app has advertisements located at the bottom, with no ad-free version nor in-app purchase to remove the banner. It also not allowing users to follow the price of different cyptocurrencies, despite the fact that other cryptocurrency trackers have used CoinMarketCap's API for information.
The app isn’t at all groundbreaking, and came a bit late since most cryptocurrency enthusiasts already have an app of their choice to do things similar. But still, it represents an important starting point for the creation of a better experience.
CoinMarketCap has also rebranded its website, as the company prepares to launch more services.
