To ensure users' safety, just after Google tried stopping Google Docs phishing scam, the company updated its Gmail app for Android to help users avoid such traps.
The update introduces a warning feature that alerts users when they tap on a suspicious link in an email that will direct them to a phishing website. The app will warn the user before they click on anything..
Google draws the information about the link from its Safe Browsing database of known malicious websites.

Phishing is a type of scam where users are tricked to reveal personal details, such as username and password, by someone posing as a trusted service or website. The bait to trick users entering the trap, usually involves the scammer sending links in emails.
When unsuspecting users click on the scammer's link, they will enter the scammer's website where users are required to enter their login credentials. In Google Docs' case, they need to grant the scammer access to their account. If the user accepted, the scammer will have control of the account, literally handing them everything.
The update for Gmail is rolling out gradually.
