OpenAI Starts Allowing Users Of Free ChatGPT To Use DALL-E 3, With A Limit

OpenAI, ChatGPT- DALL·E 3 free

OpenAI is considered one of the fastest-growing app ever, and that happens for a good reason.

It started the generative AI arms race, after it launched ChatGPT. It made others to either adopt it, or create competing products, and that they're all racing for supremacy.

With rivals closing in, matching, and even surpassing OpenAI's products, and then losing their pace, the race is continuously changing.

After announcing its flagship GPT-4o, OpenAI made a change to how it provides its services.

The company first made the model available to all users, and also expanded the accessibility of major GPT-4o features by removing the paywalls on file uploads, vision, and GPTs.

The feature creep continues, as this time, OpenAI is giving its free-tier ChatGPT users access to its highly-praised DALL·E 3.

DALL·E 3 is OpenAI's third version of its generative AI visual art platform that allows users to use generative AI to create prompts and includes more safety options.

Before this, DALL·E and DALL·E 2 were able to convert text prompts to images.

But if compared to DALL·E 3, the two predecessors could get things wrong, like ignoring specific wording.

DALL·E 3 solved this, because it understands context much better.

And here, by integrating DALL·E 3 with ChatGPT, users don't have to come up with their own detailed prompt.

Instead, they can just ask ChatGPT to come up with a prompt, and let the chatbot write out a paragraph for DALL·E 3 to follow. Since the ALL·E platforms work better with longer sentences, users can offload the creativity to the ChatGPT, and let DALL·E 3 do the rest.

"If you like a particular image, but it’s not quite right, you can ask ChatGPT to make tweaks with just a few words." explained OpenAI.

Previously, access to DALL·E 3 was restricted, and only paying users on ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Enterprise could use it.

This time, users who are using ChatGPT for free, can also access it.

But with a limit.

Just like how they are given access to GPT-4o but for only a limited queries, free-tier users can now start using the generative AI visual art platform to create only two images per day.

By extending DALL-E 3 access to free ChatGPT users, OpenAI is democratizing access to powerful AI-powered image generation tools.

This move allows a wider audience to explore the creative possibilities of DALL-E 3 and further integrates AI capabilities into the everyday user experience.

The announcement however, is sparking yet more discussions about whether paying does make a difference, or even important, as most users of ChatGPT are free users, and that they don't actually use or need ChatGPT's fullest capacity on a daily basis.

It's worth noting that OpenAI is not the only fish in the sea.

Other players that include Microsoft, which is OpenAI biggest supporter that has also considered OpenAI a rival, also has similar products. And so do Google, Meta, and a bunch of others.

This announcement also comes amidst a flurry of activity from OpenAI, including the release of a safety assessment for its GPT-4o model, the addition of a new board member, and a letter from Congressional Democrats pressing CEO Sam Altman for details regarding the company's safety record.
