Bitcoin as the most widely-used and popular cryptocurrency, continues to hold dominance in the market.

Despite it is yet to see its former 2017 dominance when it surpassed $20,000 in price, Bitcoin ended September 4th, 2019 with a price of $10,594. With a market capitalization of $190,312,487,956, Bitcoin commands 71 percent of the total cryptocurrency market.

In other words, Bitcoin's market capitalization is similar to that of PepsiCo, the carbonated soft drink manufacturer.

Bitcoin used an estimated 200 million kWh of electricity on that day.

If calculated on a yearly basis, that would amount to 73 Terawatt hour, or an equivalent of Austria’s energy consumption, or approximately the power used by 6,8 million U.S. households. This amount of energy consumption represents 0.3% of the whole world’s electricity use.

In 2017, it was reported that mining Bitcoin required electricity equivalent to what was being used by 159 countries.
