01/07/2020

After a breaking world record for the fastest YouTube video to reach 100 million (two days and 14 hours), this time, BLACKPINK is again receiving global recognition.

And that follows shortly after the release of the single "How You Like That."

On Friday June 26, and just in one weekend, the South Korean girl group broke some big numbers on Guinness World Records:

  1. Most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours.
  2. Most viewed music video on YouTube in 24 hours.
  3. Most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours by a K-pop group.

All three records surpassed previous record holder, who was BTS.

Adding to the three Guinness World Records, YouTube also confirmed that the live premiere of "How You Like That" reached 1.66 million peak concurrent viewers.

What this means, the band also recorded:

  1. Most viewers for the premiere of a video on YouTube.
  2. Most viewers for the premiere of a music video on YouTube.

Previous record holders for the most viewed YouTube videos watched in 24 hours include Ariana Grande’s “thank u, next” (55.4 million views), Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” (43.2 million views) and BLACKPINK's "Kill This Love" that held the title for only one week.

And this "How You Like That" is the group’s first single since "Kill This Love", with members Jisoo, Jennie, Rose and Lisa working up to release their first Korean-language album.

South Korean girl group BLACKPINK debuted back in August 8, 2016, with their single album Square One. The band first got its first global attention with "Whistle" as well as "Boombayah".

In just a few years, the band has received numerous awards and record titles under its belt.

In January 2019 for example, the music video "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du" became the most-watched music video by a South Korean group, surpassing BTS' "DNA". This video surpassed 1 billion views in November on that same year.

As of September 2019, BLACKPINK is the most-subscribed music group on YouTube. The band is also the most followed female group on Spotify, surpassing Fifth Harmony and Little Mix. The band is also the music group with the most subscribers on YouTube, surpassing One Direction.

Also in 2019, BLACKPINK was listed on Time Magazine's "Time 100 Next", which is list compiling top 100 rising stars from around the world.

Forbes Korea Power Celebrity has also named BLACKPINK as the most influential celebrities of Korea in 2019 and the third most influential celebrities in Korea in 2020.

What's more, BLACKPINK is also the highest-charting female K-pop act on both Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200, the only K-pop girl group to enter and top Billboard's Emerging Artists chart, and the first female K-pop group to have four number-one singles on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart.
