The South Korean singer, rapper, songwriter, and record producer named Psy, broke YouTube with its music video "Gangnam Style".

The reason was because Psy's Gangnam Style exceeded YouTube's view limit.

YouTube was using the 32-bit integer. This unit represents data in computer architecture, and has a maximum possible limit of 2,147,483,647. At the time Gangnam Style was able to broke YouTube because the music video has passed that number.

Gangnam Style became the first video to pass two billion views in May.

To solve the problem, YouTube was forced to upgrade its view counter from 32-bit to 64-bit, which can handle 9,223,372,036,854,775,807 views, or more than 9 quintillion.

According to Google on its blog post:

"We never thought a video would be watched in numbers greater than a 32-bit integer (=2,147,483,647 views), but that was before we met PSY. 'Gangnam Style' has been viewed so many times we have to upgrade!"

Speaking in May 2013, Psy told Harvard University student in Boston that the viral success of his video was an accident.

"'Gangnam Style' was not normal," he said. "'Gangnam' was not standard - that was an accident and accidents don't happen often."

He "stayed up for 30 nights to find that horse-riding dance," the move that made the video phenomenal.

Because of this reason, Psy also admitted that he has no expectations of matching Gangnam Style's success ever again.
