The Story Of A PhD Scholar And YouTube Star Who Ditches Academia for OnlyFans

24/12/2024

A woman’s life choices can be shaped by a mix of personal desires, societal expectations, and opportunities. Each decision – whether in career, relationships, or lifestyle – reflects her evolving priorities and aspirations.

For example, a woman may prioritize family life, finding fulfillment in nurturing relationships and raising children. Some others may choose to focus on building a career, valuing independence and professional growth. Others may want to seek a balance between the two, navigating the challenges of both worlds.

Life choices can also reflect deeper personal journeys – like choosing to travel the world, pursue creative passions, or break away from conventional paths to follow unique dreams. Sometimes, choices are driven by necessity, while at other times, they stem from a desire for freedom, stability, or self-discovery.

Ultimately, a woman’s life path is as diverse and dynamic as she is, shaped by experiences, environment, and the courage to embrace what feels right for her at different stages of life.

Zara Dar is a former advocate for women in STEM.

She was pursuing PhD program with a target of becoming a professor herself.

This noble dream suddenly collapsed under her own feet.

Collapsed, but through her own choice.

Zara Dar is also a YouTuber, who is known for uploading videos about AI, machine learning and neural networks.

Then, one day, she uploaded a candid video on the platform titled PhD Dropout to OnlyFans Model.

In the video, Zara shared her thought process, describing the decision as difficult but not one she regrets. She characterized the move as both a career shift and a bold gamble on her future.

"Moving on to doing OnlyFans and content creation full-time it's not just a career choice," she said to her over 100,000 subscribers on YouTube.

Despite considering a long-term career in academia, she ultimately chose to step away from her PhD, weighing the prospects of becoming a professor against the personal freedom offered by alternative paths.

Zara Dar is a graduate of the University of Texas with a master’s in computer science and bioengineering, and was pursuing her PhD.

She was envisioning a life of an academia.

But then, she realized that her career choice isn't actually what's best for her.

Zara desired the freedom to explore subjects that genuinely fascinated her, without being confined by the priorities of funding agencies.

She reflected on the lives of professionals she once admired.

She felt how a prestigious degree would only shackle her into some corporate environments, or working to fulfill someone else's dreams.

"People whose lifestyles I thought I envied are tied to someone else's vision. They'll spend their lives working for a company and doing things they don't necessarily enjoy," she said, adding that these people would never get the recognition they deserve.

"Their work might win someone else's wealth and fame while they stay in the background," the Texas-born woman said.

"Expendable, they will constantly worry about getting laid off and planning their lives around their salaries, budgeting to pay bills and likely renting a place to live," she predicted.

"People I thought I envied are often tied to someone else’s goals. They spend their lives working for companies, doing things they don’t necessarily love."

Zara also expressed concerns about the lack of recognition and security in traditional careers.

"Their efforts often build someone else’s fortune while they stay in the shadows – expendable, worrying about layoffs, and budgeting just to get by," she said.

She said in her video by highlighting that most professors in the U.S. earn around $100,000 annually, but spend more of their time writing grant proposals than conducting actual research.

That is the reality of academia, and how "smart" people work, academically.

This isn't a lifestyle she felt wasn't aligned with her vision for herself.

Bold for adventure, and with youth energy still upon herself, Zara who questioned her life choices, as well as her goals.

In her video, Zara explained that she started creating content on OnlyFans as a side project while pursuing her PhD.

It was a part time, only creating content whenever she wants, and whenever she feels like it.

She cited her desire for greater autonomy and financial independence as key reasons for her departure from academia.

"I realized that I could have a broader impact and achieve financial freedom by focusing on my online platforms," she shared in the candid video post. “It was a tough decision to leave something I’ve worked so hard for, but ultimately, this path allows me to be more creative and in control of my future."

However, her gamble actually paid of.

"I didn't want to spend my days cooped up in an office, working long hours and feeling unfulfilled," she said, in a separate interview.

"One of the things I discovered was my love for freely expressing myself and discussing various engineering topics."

Being a young and adventurous woman she is, 23-year-old Zara started creating educational content, all while exposing her body, as she's comfortable sharing more of her skin and expressing her sexuality.

She even uploaded videos of her lecturers on Pornhub, a platform known for its pornographic content.

"As a result, I gained a reputation as the 'hot science girl,'" she gushed.

But then, she wanted more, and this was when she joined OnlyFans.

"I joined OnlyFans and within just one month of joining, I became one of the top 0.3% of creators on the platform," she said in an interview.

Zara revealed she has earned a lot more money than what professors make per year, in a fraction of the time.

Through this venture, she earned $1 million, which she used to pay off her family's mortgage and buy herself a car.

"I've made $1 million!" she revealed, emphasizing the financial side of her decision.

She explained: "It made me realize many engineers struggle to make ends meet, while on OnlyFans, I was able to earn several times what I would as an engineer."

Seeing how she is doing well financially, she starts putting her academia aside, on the shelves, in order to pursue modeling on OnlyFans and content creation full time.

"Thankfully, I avoided taking out any student loans. Now, I have an investment portfolio and am planning to buy my own house. These accomplishments are a testament to the tangible rewards of carving my own path and the freedom it has brought me," she said.

"I'm a nerd with a passion for art, fitness, and reading," she said on her OnlyFans page.

"On this page, I share with you my artistically and beautifully curated exclusive content which includes a level of nudity and my love for erotica . I love pushing my boundaries with you."

And by what she means by "a level of nudity" she is doing on Onlyfans isn't entirely pornographic.

She said that what she includes is "partial nipple" and "implied nudity" only.
