In the era of Large Language Models, tech companies race to create better and better generative AI products.
Following OpenAI revelation of ChatGPT, many have entered the fierce battle, where they compete for supremacy. And Meta is one of the biggest players in the field, is moving fast.
After releasing LLaMA 1, LLaMA 2 and LLaMA 3, the company keeps on improving its chatbot.
And here, according to an announcement, the company said that it is giving its AI "a voice."
According to Meta, the lineup includes "some familiar names" like Awkwafina, Dame Judi Dench, John Cena, Keegan-Michael Key, and Kristen Bell, whose voices are now featured as AI options.
To bring this to life, Meta partnered with these celebrities to train the chatbot, enabling it to replicate their distinct voices.
As a result, users can engage in real-time conversations and choose between computer-generated voices or those of their favorite celebrities.
These celebrity voices add a unique and personalized touch to the Meta AI experience.
In addition to this, Meta is also giving users the ability to chat with their own selves.
During Meta Connect keynote, Mark Zuckerberg invited creator Don Allen Stevenson III to join him onstage.
The Meta CEO then proceeded to pick up a phone and carry on a conversation with an AI-generated version of Stevenson as the genuine article stood between the exec and an image of himself on the big screen.
"If you’re getting a ton of DMs, and you’re missing the time to respond, Creator AI for me has been answering a lot of my frequently asked questions," Stevenson said of how he’s used the platform.
"It saves time. I have time to go outside, take a break."
The demo showcased AI Studio, a platform for designing custom chatbots.
In all, the Meta AI updates come as the company works to ensure its AI chatbot-accessible on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads-remains competitive, especially during the time when products like ChatGPT has rolled out its own Advanced Voice Mode feature.
But unlike ChatGPT, which was met with controversies when it copied Scarlett Johansson's voice, which led to the actress threatening a lawsuit, Meta is more open to collaboration.
The company that aims its Meta AI "is on track to become the most-used AI assistant in the world by the end of this year," has also introduced of other things.
One of the most notable, is the Meta’s AR glasses Meta calls the 'Orion.'
The device marks a departure of Meta from just a developer of software, to the creator of hardware.
Zuckerberg described the Orion glasses as “the most advanced glasses the world has ever seen.”
