Not Only Firefly: Adobe Wants To 'Unify AI-Powered Tools' By Adding AI Models From Rivals

One that is good, is good enough. But often, the more the merrier.

Adobe holds a significant advantage in the industry due to its strong brand recognition, comprehensive ecosystem. Known for its suite of creative software like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects and many more, the company isn't shy about diving deep into the Large Language Models competition sparked following the release of OpenAI's ChatGPT.

With the release of Firefly, and thanks to its massive userbase and tools to begin with, Adobe is able to gain an upper hand, even as the competition harshened.

And this time, the company is introducing what it calls the "next evolution of creative AI."

In a blog post:

"In just under two years, Adobe Firefly has revolutionized the creative industry and generated more than 22 billion assets worldwide. Today at Adobe MAX London, we're unveiling the latest release of Firefly, which unifies AI-powered tools for image, video, audio, and vector generation into a single, cohesive platform and introduces many new capabilities."

Here, Adobe wants to diversify users' creative options by including non-Adobe AI models.

"In response to community feedback, we’re excited to integrate non-Adobe AI models directly into our Creative Cloud ecosystem."

"Now, alongside our own Firefly models, which are commercially safe and IP-friendly for production use, you can choose from a diverse range of specialized, non-Adobe models — starting with Google Imagen3 and Veo2, OpenAI GPT image generation, and Black Forest Labs Flux 1.1 Pro. We are also working with a number of other models that you will see in products in the coming months like fal.ai, Runway, Pika, Luma, and Ideogram."

Since no AI model is perfect, and that every generative AI model has a distinct aesthetic, Adobe wants to give users more choices by giving them the flexibility to choose the AIs of their choice to suit their needs.

To do this, Adobe is putting all the available choices under one interface, just for the convenience.

"Whether you need the impeccable quality and commercial safety of Adobe’s models or the unique capabilities and aesthetic styles of the non-Adobe models, you can effortlessly compare outputs to find the ideal style for your creative needs."

"We’re making these models directly available in our creative apps, starting with Firefly. If you decide to use a non-Adobe model, switching will be seamless and we’ll always be transparent about which model you’re using. Content Credentials will be attached to all AI-generated content, ensuring transparency and trust. No matter which model you choose, you can always see whether it was created with Firefly or a non-Adobe model with Content Credentials."

But including others' products doesn't mean that Adobe is forgetting its Firefly AI.

In fact, Adobe is giving it a big boost in ability by introducing the 'Image Model 4' and 'Image Model 4 Ultra.'

These two Firefly AI models are "designed specifically for creative professionals who want the highest level of control with creative AI."

The Image Model 4, which is the base model, is more ideal for rapid ideation and everyday creative needs. According to Adobe, Image Model 4 excels at generating high-quality images quickly and efficiently. It's perfect for creating simple illustrations, icons, and basic photo objects, covering 90% of typical creative requirements quickly and inexpensively.

As for the Image Model 4 Ultra, it's more suited for projects that demand more detail and realism. This model is capable of rendering more photorealistic scenes, human portraits, and small groups, ensuring they look natural and lifelike, designed for highly complex needs, when precision and clarity are important.

And last but not least, Adobe said that its Firefly Video Model is now officially out of beta.

The AI model that powers Adobe's Generate Video allows users to create entirely new video clips to quickly and effortlessly communicate their creative intent. With it out of beta, Adobe ensures that it packs "significant improvements" than before.
