Code Red worm

A computer worm that attacked computers running Microsoft's Internet Information Server (IIS) web server was observed on the internet on July 13, 2001. The worm was first discovered and researched by eEye Digital Security employees. They named it "Code Red" because Code Red Mountain Dew they were drinking at the time.

Two weeks after the release of the Code Red worm, a similar worm to the Code Red worm was released. The worm was designed to exploit a security hole in the indexing software included as part of Microsoft's IIS web server software.
