Droid, a font family created by Steve Matteson from Ascender Corporation, was first used under Apache License. The fonts that are intended for use on the small screens, got its name derived from the Open Handset Alliance platform name Android.
The Droid font family that consists of Droid Sans, Droid Sans Mono and Droid Serif, has an extensive character set including coverage of Western European, Eastern/Central European, Baltic, Cyrillic, Greek and Turkish languages.
Droid was replaced by a newer typeface family called Roboto.
