The Death Date For Flash Results To The Death Date For 'FarmVille'

27/09/2020

Most users of the early days of Facebook may recognize 'FarmVille', the agriculture-simulation social network game developed and published by Zynga in 2009. For those people, they either played it, or knew someone who did.

It was that popular FarmVille was.

The game involves gamers doing various aspects of farmland management, such as plowing land, planting, growing, and harvesting crops, harvesting trees and raising livestock, was one of the first Facebook's staple games.

The award winner at the Game Developers Conference for the "Best New Social/Online Game" in 2010, was even said to be one of the main big things that drove people into becoming Facebook users, with its more than 83 million monthly active gamers, after accounting to about 10% of the social media's revenue.

But those days have past.

Facebook has grown so large that it can blanket the whole internet. And because the game requires Adobe Flash applications to run, a technology that the internet in general is trying to kill, FarmVille is seeing its death comes nearer.

And this was announced by Zynga.

On its Facebook page, FarmVille wrote a message, saying:

"Thank you is a small word but when fertilized with love and beautiful memories, it means the world to us. So here’s a great BIG THANK YOU for farming with us through it all."

On September 27, 2020, Zynga announced that it would discontinue FarmVille's operations on December 31, 2020.

On FarmVille's F&Q page, Zynga that states its mission as "connecting the world through games," cited that both Facebook and web browsers would no longer continue supporting Flash Player on that same day.

FarmVille has gone beyond a simple and ordinary game, and can be compared with, in its ability to keep people hooked, to the likes of Candy Crush and the more modern Fortnite.

FarmVille is Zynga's second game, which was introduced two years after the release of Texas Hold'Em Poker, also known as Zynga Poker.

On its web page, Zynga wrote:

Following an incredible 11 years since its initial launch back in 2009, we are officially announcing the closure of the original FarmVille game on Facebook. As previously stated, Adobe will stop distributing and updating Flash Player for all web browsers, and Facebook will stop supporting Flash games on the platform completely after December 31st, 2020. FarmVille will therefore be directly affected as a result of this.

We’re aware that many of you have been with us since the very beginning, helping to build an incredible global community of players over the years who’ve enjoyed this game just as much as we have. For that we say thank you.

In advance of sunsetting the game, we would like to point out that in-app purchases will be available up until November 17, at which point the game’s payment system will be completely turned off. Thereafter the game will not be accepting any in-app payments and any refunds will not be processed during this time. FarmVille will, however, continue to be playable until December 31st, 2020, at which point it will be shut down completely.

Any remaining credits that you have during this period should be used before December 31st, 2020. We are also working on fun in-game activities to be announced soon that are designed to make your remaining time with FarmVille even more enjoyable.

We hope that the in-game experiences we’ve developed over the years have provided you with the highest level of entertainment that we strive to fulfill here at Zynga. We look forward to you joining us in Farmville 2: Tropic Escape, Farmville 2: Country Escape and the upcoming worldwide launch of FarmVille 3 on mobile.
