Miss Indonesia And Miss Israel Caught In A Heated Israel-Palestine Debate On Instagram

War is never a good thing for the people that suffer from it first hand.

The physical consequences of war include in injury, illness, malnutrition, disability and death. Civilians, especially women and children, suffer atrocities in particular.

The widespread trauma caused by these atrocities and suffering of the civilian population is another legacy of these conflicts, creating extensive emotional and psychological stress. Present-day internal wars generally take a larger toll on civilians than state wars, due to the increasing trend where combatants have made targeting civilians a strategic objective.

In Israel's war against the Palestinian's Hamas, after the latter's surprise attack to the former, the effects of the assault is far-reaching.

And on social media, people are taking sides.

And apparently, these people include two world-class beauty pageants who caused quite a stir on Instagram.

Whulandary Herman and Yityish Titi Aynaw, both of whom were once competitors in Miss Universe 2013 in Moscow, were caught in a debate.

It all happened when Whulandary, an Indonesian actress, TV host, model and beauty pageant titleholder, posted two photos to her Instagram account, to show her support to the Palestinian people.

The photos contain the words "From river to sea, Palestine will be free", and "Bombing children is not self-defense".

The woman, who is affectionately called Uni, also added a caption to the photo.

"It’s not the eyes that are blind, but the heart. Your freedom is our dream".

This post received a harsh comment from Titi, who is none other than Miss Israel.

"Really? Yes, what about the 1,400 Israelis who were killed? What about the 30 babies kidnapped to Gaza?" Titi wrote.

Not stopping there, Titi also mentioned religion, which made netizens angry.

In a long comment that can no longer be found on Instagram, Titi also asked the Miss Indonesia various questions in a sarcastic tone.

"What is the freedom you are talking about? Is your dream to see my brothers and sisters burned and killed? Do you know who started all this? Hamas! You should free them from the Palestinians," the Miss Israel wrote.

"Does the Quran justify the rape of women? Because that’s what they did to women your age," Titi's fury continued.

Even Titi mentioned the sexual violence against Israeli women and babies associated with the conflict between the two countries.

The two women debated and traded barbs, while most others became spectators.

While most people praised Whulandary for the way she responded to the harsh comment, some others posted cynical comment on her Instagram.

Some people said that she created the post, and argued with Titi, just to make a sensation and go viral.

Hearing this, Whulandary responded sharply.

"Sometimes I’m confused about people like this. I’m called, DM-ed, my mother is contacted for interviews, I’m asked to come to TV stations, but I don’t take any of them because my intention is not to become an artist, let alone seek popularity," she said. "Sorry, you might be my new follower, but long before this incident, I always posted about Palestine. I don’t make a living from sensationalism. Alhamdulillah, I post because of my conscience, not to seek sympathy."
