Online Sympathy, When Video Of An Angry Woman Destroying A Robot Goes Viral

AI is taking over, and with robots, AI has been given the ability to physically interact with humans.

While the two technologies have replaced an increasing number of things and jobs in the society, there are some sectors that may never be replaced by machines. Among them, include healthcare.

Humans are social beings with feelings, thus needs to be treated with feelings as well.

AI and robots cannot do this, and one woman is showing how frustrating it can be when dealing with the emerging technologies, amid despair and hopelessness.

In a footage, uploaded by a user of Weibo, shows the woman repeatedly beating the robot with a club at the lobby of the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University in Xuzhou, Jiangsu province, China.

In China, hospitals allow people to make medical appointments and examination appointments using emerging technologies, like robots.

These robots are stationed where receptionists' desks would normally be, meaning that in China, some hospitals are already employing robots with fewer nurses to help patients.

While using technologies can speed up the processes or registrations, many people actually find it frustrating.

And the woman, wearing a yellow coat, is a good example of this.

In a video that went viral, she appears to angrily yell at the robot before hitting its monitor with her club.

Hospital staff that are nearby, couldn't do anything but to back away and take cover, as the woman shouted at them, and repeatedly hit the robot and had its parts and components fly all over the place.

The robot, despite losing parts, continues to swivel its head and raise its arms, doing what it should as if nothing happens.

Before the video ends, the woman is seen taking off her coat in an apparent preparation to deliver more blows to the unfortunate machine.

After the incident, the hospital's security department called the police, and the woman was investigated.

Initially, her motive was unclear.

But it was suggested that she either suffered mental illness, or was in grief.

While vandalism is a crime, people on the internet actually expressed their sympathy.

"It’s like you can almost feel her pain," one person wrote.

"Elysium. Unbelievable. I feel so bad for people living through this and I’m sad this is what’s coming to other countries if people don’t wake up and realize this can happen to them," another user said.

It's worth noting that the incident happened way back in April 2023, making its round on Weibo Douyin around that time, It and only became viral on Western social media on November.
