Ditched By PayPal, Pornhub Starts Adopting Tether As Its Second Supported Cryptocurrency

24/01/2020

Pornhub starts allowing its content creators to cash out their earnings in Tether cryptocurrency (USDT).

According to Pornhub‘s blog, its content creators can use the cryptocurrency wallet TRONlink. This marks the second cryptocurrency adopted by Pornhub, which started supporting payment in the cryptocurrency Verge (XVG) in 2018.

On its blog post, Pornhub said that:

"The first bit of good news is that we added USDT to your payout options. For those of you who may not know, USDT is a crypto currency that follows the US dollar, meaning one USDT token is equal to one US dollar. USDT transactions can be done globally within a few seconds and there are no fees.

Since USDT and TRON blockchain have partnered up, we can now pay Models securely through TRONlink, a cryptocurrency wallet."

The announcement came two months after PayPal dropped support for the adult entertainment giant. PayPal cited that Pornhub allegedly processed “certain business payments” without its approval.

Pornhub was “devastated”, also because PayPal in dropping its support was reportedly affecting hundreds of thousands of its users who relied on the online payments system to transfer money generated on the site into their personal bank accounts.

At the time, a Pornhub said that PayPal's decision “do nothing but harm efforts to end discrimination and stigma towards sex workers,.” before saying that there would be new payment options that were sex worker friendly, as well as more cryptocurrencies.

“Since PayPal’s decision to stop payouts to thousands of Models two months ago, we’ve been hustling to...offer you more options," said Pornhub, adding that USDT transactions can take place “within a few seconds” and that there are "no fees."

Justin Sun, CEO of TRON, praised Pornhub’s decision to add USDT via TRONLink, saying that it is “a brilliant way to support the victims of centralized payment platforms like PayPal.”

What should be noted here is that, USDT ot XVG are not cash. What this means, Pornhub content creators still need to sell it for fiat currency (like through cryptocurrency exchange), and later sending that money from the exchange to their bank account.

While Pornhub content creators can be paid in seconds, the process to exchange their cryptocurrencies may take days to complete. Other options they can use include Cosmo Payment, which is "tailored for the adult industry", or direct deposit for users in Australia and Puerto Rico.

"We also offer direct deposit for Canadians and have SEPA Direct Debit for European countries," closed Pornhub.
