Google is dominant in the search industry, but it still couldn't crawl information within apps as good as it could gather things around the web. The search giant must persuade apps developers to allow its bots to index them. In its attempt to keep its search engine relevant and dependable, Google gets a lending hand from Facebook. The social giant network allows Google to crawl and index its mobile app.
This was first mentioned by a spokeswoman for Google. The agreements means that results from Google searches on mobile devices will display some contents it thinks relevant from Facebook's mobile app. This includes, and not limited to, people's profile information.
The links that appear on Google search are deep links that will take users to the relevant part of Facebook, explained the spokeswoman.
By allowing Google to search inside Facebook, Google can now list Pages, Groups and Events in its SERPs.
"When people search for public Facebook content on the mobile web, those who use Facebook for Android can now click through and go straight to the Facebook app," said Facebook's spokeswoman.
