The world has witnesses how the death of a young woman sparked months-long anger and relentless protests in Iran, which were further fueled by the media and how the Iranian government responded to them.

Ali Khamenei, who has been in power as Supreme Leader of Iran since 1989, has the "direct responsibility" for various policies, which "cannot be conducted without his direct involvement and approval."

And in coincidence of the Woman's Day in Iran, the religious leader shared to Twitter a number of videos and photos of his meeting with Iranian women "in cultural, social, academic, and scientific fields."

In the occasion, he also shared his thoughts of the unrest that happens in Iran, and blames the West for the "capitalistic system."

He argued that since "capital is more in the hands of men, men have a higher priority" in the Western world.

In series of tweets, he attacked the West, and explained that even in the West, women aren't equal to men.

"Even now women are paid less than men for doing the same work in many Western countries. Women are being misused. Under the pretext of women’s emancipation in the 19th and 20th centuries, women were pulled out from their homes to work in factories with lower wages."

Following Amini's death, many women in Iran, and supporters of women equal rights, have taken off their hijab, and have taken it to the streets to demand justice.

They argue that Iran's regime, through the imposition of the the strict Islamic sharia law, has restrained the freedom of expression, violated women's rights.

But here, Khamenei also criticized the West for hypocrisy over to so-called women’s rights.

"The ultimate disgrace of the West is that despite the problems in their society such as sexual slavery and the female sex trade, they claim to be the flag bearers of women’s rights."

"The West’s capitalistic system is dominated by men. In #capitalism, capital is something higher than humanity. Humanity is being used to serve capital. Thus, any human being who can generate and accumulate more capital is more valuable," as Khamenei took aim at western capitalism, which he portrayed as male dominated.

Iran faced down its worst protests in years after 22-year-old Mahsa Amini was killed in September while in police custody.

She was reportedly arrested for wearing her hijab incorrectly.

While Khamenei said he was "deeply heartbroken" over the death of young Amini, he claimed that the riot was "planned" by "America and the Zionist regime."

But regardless, media reported that the Iranian government had to reserve to extreme measures to keep things under control.

One of which, is the approval of death penalties for the those who have been arrested in connection to the ongoing protests.

In addition, on December 9th, regime leaders continue to mandate mandatory veiling for women.

The Supreme Leader made the statements days before the date of birth of Fatimah az-Zahra, the daughter of Prophet Muhammad, according to the Islamic calendar.

Fatimah, whose husband was Ali, was the fourth of the Rashidun Caliphs and the first of the twelve Shia Imams. Fatimah's sons, Hasan and Husayn, were second and third Shia Imams, respectively.

And Iran, is the largest Shia Islam majority country in the world.
