The original Apple computer

11/04/1976

The very first Apple Computer, also known as the Apple I, or Apple-1, was released. The computer was designed and hand-built by Steve Wozniak.

To fund its creation, beside scrounging and lends from family members, Wozniak sold his HP-65 calculator while Steve Jobs sold his one and only means of transportation. And with the help of their friend, Ronald Wayne, that served as Apple's "adult supervision", the three started building the machine.

The Apple I was demonstrated in July 1976 at the Homebrew Computer Club in Palo Alto, California. It went on sale at a price of S$666.66. About 200 units were produced and Apple succeeded selling 25 of them in less than a year. The Apple I was a direct competitor to the Altair 8800.
